Yes a 4x6 golf mat will work nicely for hitting driver. Most driving ranges use a 5x5, so 5-feet in the heel-to-toe direction accommodates most golfers. Typically, if you want to stand on a golf mat and be able to hit all of your clubs including driver a 3x5 would be the minimum required size. So a 4x5,5x5,4x6,4x8,5x8, and 5x10 will all work nicely depending on your golf space or simulator room.
If you are building a golf simulator - it's best to determine what launch monitor you will be using before determining the golf mat size. Some launch monitors /golf simulators require different placement relative to the ball.
